Yes . . . you heard me correctly.
Install your own double glazing . . . yourself!
That's exactly what 43 year old 'clueless' housewife from Wallasey managed to achieve and she's helpfully outlined how she successfully installed her double glazing in less than 45 minutes.
Fast. Warmer. Better. Cheaper.
All possible!
Double glazing ‘DIY style’ is a fantastic option if you currently have installed a single sheet of glass and you would like to ‘upgrade’ to its more insular double sheeted cousin without the cost of a ‘full refit’.
We’re talking 'secondary glazing’ . . .
We’re assuming you’re sold on the why of installing double glazing so we’ll get straight to the how . . .
Let me explain.
Perhaps the hardest task is measuring the glass you will need . . . and to the uninitiated this can be tricky . . . in fact trickier than the actual installation of the glass.
Which is why we’d suggest you could opt for a survey where we’d measure the glass for you. Call us on 0151-645-3830.
But if you’re confident to do a full DIY job, here’s how:
Measure the width two centimetres either side of the beading:
For the height of the panel, measure from the bottom . . .
To two centres to the top of upper beading . . .
But now what?
First up, you’ll need to shell out on two millimetre clear acrylic sheets:
Steel and magnetic cheap to fit the measurements . . .
DOES THIS GLAZING LOOK FAT ON ME?
Many are called but few are chosen, and if you’ve made it this far it’s likely that you’re very likely to join the exclusive but ever growing club of DIY double glazers!
Wipe around the window frame with a damp cloth . . .
Put the secondary glazing in place and ensure the distance between the glazing and the beading is the same on both sides.
Draw the outline of the panel using a pencil . . . as above . . . and remove one side of the protective film:
Fix the magnetic tape to the corner . . .
Once you reach the corners, remove the excess take with scissors:
And place the steel tape onto the window edge where you made the pencil marking above . . .
Now fit the window with the steel and magnet tape aligned . . .
And finally remove the outer protective film.
