International Women's Day
With International Women’s Day upon us (March 8), the Bebington Glazing team are championing women within the construction sector.
The construction industry is a significant contributor to the UK’s economy, employing around 2.1 million people. However, of this impressive figure, women make up only 11% and are typically paid 12% less than men in the same roles. Did you know that just 19% of UK board members at construction companies are women?
Here at Bebington Glazing, we believe that it’s so important to increase the percentage of female employees and educate our young people on the diverse career opportunities in this booming industry. It is a common misconception that construction is simply male-dominated with hard hats, high-vis jackets and building sites – there are a huge range of additional job roles available such as design, management, engineering and architecture to name just a few.
International Women’s Day is all about celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women across the globe and that’s what we aim to do on a daily basis within our company.
We are passionate about supporting women who are interested in pursuing a career in construction, and this entails educating the younger generations on the wide range of job prospects that the industry holds. We continue to provide women with the opportunity to enter the trade and develop the skills of those already active in construction. As an industry, we must work together to further banish the inaccurate gender stereotypes that is often perceived of our trade and continue to encourage women to consider a career in construction.
