So What’s It All About?

Popular throughout the United Kingdom and Europe before the advent of their sash cousin’s arrival, this classic design has experienced somewhat of a comeback, and for very, very good reasons.

The casement window has been described in Chambers & Schwartz classic 1983 book ‘What Style Is It?’ as ‘a window that is attached to its frame by one or more hinges’.

Distinct from its closely related ‘awning window’ cousin (which have their hinges at the top), casement windows display their hinges at the side, although the definition is often ignored in modern times.
